I am certain that this sign makes perfect sense to someone, somewhere, and as a result of this sign, I am equally certain that someone, somewhere upped their awareness and had a better day: perhaps saw some ghosts; witnessed that famous hand of the free market and glimpsed little kids under cloaks practising their magic for the finals at the school that doesn’t exist.

What is invisible? It’s something that can’t be perceived by the eye, or, the state of an object which can’t be seen, like when something just evaporates. Like money. And me, apparently. I enter a store with people and they swear I disappear. Evaporate. Become invisible. I do come back though. And always have a story to tell.

Simply put, invisible is something NOT FREAKING VISIBLE.

So at the end of the day, I cannot think of what this sign might be referencing. But I believe it: it is often the things you cannot see, cannot know, that get you, that pull you from the normal minutes of the normal hours, of the normal days of your life. It might at some point manifest physically, but it starts, invisibly. Awareness of the invisible is important. Like having your internal radar tuned in to blips on the screen signalling that something — torpedo or friendly dolphin — is coming at you.

Love. Fun. Sadness. A lesson in life. Loss. Gain. Taste. Life. Anger. Everything about what makes us human is initially, in its pre-zygotic state, invisible. Through astonishing acts of creativity, we bring into the world signs that we are not invisible. We exist. Like the sign in the picture. And music. And colour. And dance. A sound, a sigh. Sisters talking. A hug. All evidence of the visibleness of us.

Our creativity as a species is endless and makes my heart ache.

What I love about the sign is its proof that we are a beautifully, wonderfully imperfect and funny lot we humans. It is this artefact, the evidence of our humour, imperfection, fallibility and creativity, that seems to endure over the few millenia we’ve inhabited the planet. I’m not for a minute saying we don’t have global issues of significant concern — we do — but back in the local world, this sign says it all.

And of course, from a purely communications perspective..just when we think we are being clear…it turns out… not so much!

Have yourself a great day, and as always, BE AWARE OF INVISIBILITY!

    Another fun read. Thank you…
So how DO you disappear in a store? Do you possess a chameleon-like camouflage ability to blend in with the clothes? Do you have stereoscopic vision too? And the really long tongue??
OK, I’ll stop here before my monkey brain gets the best of me.
