One Hundred Aspects of Words

All of life, all of memory, all of experience, all of wishes, hopes dreams, fears, all things observed, wondered, seen, heard, tasted, felt, everything is SQUEEZED, funneled, distilled through the specific placement of 26 letters  that create words, and the placement of words that make something more than a word on paper or screen or pavement.

I did not write this list. While it’s not an exhaustive, it is a list that speaks to me for two reasons: First, as a human who communicates with other humans, it reminds me to be considerate in my use of words because words have power beyond what I can ever imagine. Second, it speaks to me as a writer, reminding me there is a craft in this writering business and words are the tools of the craft. I am only as good as my how well I use my tools.

There is another layer to this list: it has some historical references about words, that reference the pools and rivers of linguistics and communications and perhaps, the collective ability of the human race to tell its many stories through words.

Please free to add to the list…

DISCLAIMER:  I don’t remember where I got this list or why I have it, however I have had it for years and find it to be true each time I read it. What I DO know is that it’s either Canadian, English or European because of the spelling of colour. If anyone knows who compiled this list…please let me know.
